What Happens in a Typical Lesson?

Each lesson is different but in our 40 minute lessons we may:

  1. Learn a new rote piece which concentrates on a certain technique.
  1. Improvise a short piece with teacher accompaniment.
  1. Do some finger patterns and warm up our fingers in an interesting way, or work through keys using scales or chords.
  1. Rhythm work away from piano.
  1. Lead into singing through solfa.
  1. Reading pieces combining rhythm, patterns and mood.
  1. Play some review pieces from memory.
  1. Ear training at piano or writing in manuscript book.
  1. Review main points of lesson.

Children should be sure what they are required to do, before going home to practise.
